Watercraft Collision in Glen Canyon Leaves 2 Dead

Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Spokesperson Denise Shultz said a New Mexico family was enjoying the scenery and looking at Peekaboo Arch on Friday, when 2 personal watercrafts collided, killing 2 riders. In addition, a juvenile female was taken to the hospital and later released.

The accident investigation is being conducted by Utah State Parks with assistance from the San Juan County Sheriff's Office and the National Parks Service. The names of the deceased will not be released until the investigation has concluded.

Staff at Glen Canyon remind everyone, especially families with young children, to remain extra vigilant around the water. Check the weather forecast, limit alcohol consumption, and make sure that everyone has a lifejacket of the appropriate size that fits properly.
