Utahns Divided On Minimum Wage Action

americanprogressaction.org

Despite Utah’s emergence from the recent recession as one of the strongest economies in the nation, many people remain worried over wages and the state’s cost of living.

A Utah Foundation survey found that Utahns were divided over whether to support a raise in the minimum wage to over $10 an hour. 41 percent of residents surveyed were in favor of the wage while another 41 percent were opposed.

Utah ranks 31st in the nation in terms of households earning enough income to comfortably meet their own needs. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Beehive State has seen little change in wage growth, although there was a small increase in 2015.

A higher minimum wage bill introduced to the state House Business and Labor Committee back in March failed to gain traction.
