Health officials in Utah say people who visited two restaurants in Spanish Fork last month may have been exposed to hepatitis A.

The Salt Lake County Health Department says customers who used the restroom or ate at either Sonic Drive-In or Olive Garden in late December should contact the agency to determine their risk and possibly get a vaccine.

This is the second hepatitis-related alert issued by health officials in the state this week.

Hepatitis A is an extremely contagious liver disease. It can be spread through contaminated food and water or sexual contact.

The department says the exposure at the Spanish Fork restaurants occurred when an ill employee worked there while still infectious. The agency believes the cases are lined to an ongoing outbreak that began in August.
