Jon Harper says he will not be able to continue his Utah Attorney General campaign due to health reasons.

In a statement, Harper encouraged incumbent candidate Republican Sean Reyes to shut down what Harper called "the money mill" in the AG office that answers to the Republican Party and large donors.

Throughout his campaign Harper called for his opponent to restore openness and independence within the Utah Attorney General office.

Utah Democratic Party Chair Peter Corroon says he supports Harper decision to place his health and family ahead of the race.

Harper was scheduled to debate his Republican opponent in St. George Wednesday evening during a statewide broadcast. The Utah Debate Commission will instead allow Sean Reyes to answer questions during the hour-long broadcast beginning at 6 p.m.
