After a defeat in 2014, Tryon didn’t plan to run again but he says he changed his mind when Chaffetz stood him up for a scheduled meeting in Washington.
“I flew back to meet with him, and I had that appointment cancelled the day of. And that’s not customer service,” Tyron said.
He said he’s unsatisfied with how Chaffetz has represented the third district. If elected, Tryon wants to build trust in congress by creating a website where people can talk about issues and suggest new ones.
He says he’s also committed to balancing the budget.
“It’s the morally right thing to do--stop spending more than we’re taking in on taxes,” Tyron said.
For his part, Chaffetz cites his work on a law to make it easier for the government to collect taxes from online shopping. Most recently he received national attention for questioning FBI Director James Comey about Hillary Clinton’s private server.
“When there was a problem with Hillary Rodham Clinton’s emails, what did they do? She called the person who has no background in this, who’s not a state department employee, with no security clearance, and then tells the FBI, well, I never knew about that.”
