When San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the national anthem, he sparked a vigorous national conversation about Race, Police, Patriotism, Free Speech and other issues. We’re going to continue that conversation next time on Access Utah. We’ll be talking with Forrest Crawford, Professor of Teacher Education and former Assistant to the President for Institutional Diversity at Weber State University; and Jason Gilmore, Assistant Professor of Global Communication at Utah State University.
Forrest C. Crawford,Ed.D. Professor Teacher Education--A native of Oklahoma,Forrest has been at Weber professionally for 38 years.Before then,he was with the Bureau of Indian Affairs Schools as Counselor and Researcher. His early career at Weber began in the Division of Student Affairs but has taught in WSU's Teacher Education Department since 1990.He administratively served as the University’s first Assistant to the President for Institutional Diversity for over 13 years, was instrumental in inspiring the "Venture Project for the Humanities" and founded the WSU Annual American Indian Symposium. A notable awards winner and international lecture, Forrest founded several local Non-Governmental Organizations and was elected two-terms as Secretary General to the International Society for Teacher Education.His publication/research areas are:Critical Multiculturalism,Human Rights Education,Critical Pedagogy and Applied Classroom/Community-based Activism.
