Post-Recession Enrollment Back Up at Southern Utah University

During the Great Recession Utah's institutions of higher learning generally saw significant increases as out-of-work individuals flocked to college campuses, and as students, unable to secure employment, decided to remain in school.

Southern Utah University was the exception, where enrollment dropped during the economic downturn, presumably as parents elected to save housing expenses by sending their students to commuter schools closer to home.

But with a better economic outlook, SUU enrollment is again on the rise--leading all of Utah's universities and colleges with a 3.09% increase in 2012.

Chris Holmes holds a Masters of Professional Communication degree from Southern Utah University. Chris is co-host of the daily public affairs program, Big Picture Morning Show on radio station KSUB (Cedar City, Utah). He also is a sports and news contributor at Cherry Creek Media.
