Police in Logan say they arrested two suspects Friday after finding 51 marijuana plants growing inside an apartment near 100 E. 300 North.
Police were in the area responding to an unrelated burglary case around 2:30 a.m. Friday. According to Assistant Police Chief Jeff Curtis, an officer had collected all the information for the case and was leaving when he detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from a window fan in a nearby apartment.
Additional officers came to the scene and smelled the same odor. A judge signed a warrant and the warrant was executed on the home where two adult men were found inside.
Police say there were 51 marijuana plants in different stages of growth located in one of the rooms along with various cultivation tools.
Two men both in their twenties were taken into custody.
The apartment renter was identified as 23 year old Dante F. Salvati who was booked into the Cache County Jail for cultivation of marijuana - a 2nd degree felony and possession of grow equipment - a class-A Misdemeanor.
Both charges were enhanced due to the grow operation being within 1,000 feet of a church or school, police said.
27 Year old Martin A. Brown of Logan was also located in the apartment. Police say he was visiting at the time officers made entry into the residence. Brown was booked into the Cache County Jail for possession of marijuana by consumption - also a class-B Misdemeanor.
