Dean John Allen of Utah State University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences named Peg Arnold the new general manager of Utah Public Radio. Along with her duties as head of the campus National Public Radio affiliate, Arnold also will serve as a faculty member in the Department of Journalism and Communication.
“Peg Arnold has a long history of successful management of public radio stations and I’m excited to have her join us as manager of Utah Public Radio,” Allen said. “I believe her addition to our community will lead to a solid statewide structure linking to our regional campuses and supporting President Albrecht’s mission of a statewide land-grant university. I believe there is a very bright future for UPR under the leadership of Ms. Arnold.”
Currently the general manager of WXPR Public Radio in Wisconsin, Arnold brings two decades of public radio experience to UPR, including a stint in both managerial and faculty capacities at Wyoming Public Media and the University of Wyoming. Her appointment at UPR begins Sept. 22.
“This is a unique opportunity to both advance the mission of UPR and bring public radio ideals to the next generation of journalists,” Arnold said. “I’m delighted to be joining in USU’s dedication to preparing students for 21st century careers requiring multimedia journalism skills.”
UPR is a statewide network of 36 broadcast locations airing news, public affairs and fine arts programming. UPR.org provides cross-platform digital access to all of the station’s programming.
With a commitment to deliver programming that enriches the lives of its listeners, UPR’s programming includes NPR News and BBC World News, along with locally produced shows such as Access Utah and Zesty Garden.
“We will be creating more locally relevant content that is so highly valued by the UPR listening audience,” Arnold said.
