My guest for the hour today is poet Rebecca Lindenberg. Clouds, mountains, flowering trees. Difficult things. Things lost by being photographed. Things that have lost their power. Things found in a rural grocery store. These are some of the lists, poems, prose poems, and lyric anecdotes compiled in “The Logan Notebooks,” a remix and a reimagining of The Pillow Book of Sei Shonagon, a collection of intimate and imaginative observations about place—a real place, an interior landscape—and identity, at the intersection of the human with the world, and the language we have (and do not yet have) for perceiving it.
“The Logan Notebooks,” winner of the 2015 Utah Book Award and part of the Mountain West Poetry Series, is published by the Center for Literary Publishing at Colorado State University, University Press of Colorado.
Rebecca Lindenberg is the author of Love, an Index (McSweeney's 2012) and The Logan Notebooks (The Center for Literary Publishing at Colorado State, 2014). She's the recipient of a 2013 Amy Lowell Traveling Fellowship, a 2011 National Endowment for the Arts Literature Grant, a 2009-2010 Fellowship from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, as well as a 2012 residency from the MacDowell Arts Colony. Her poetry, essays, and criticism appear in such magazines as The Believer, Poetry, DIAGRAM, Third Coast, Smartish Pace, Conjunctions, ANTI, Iowa Review, Quarterly West, and many more. She holds a Ph.D. in Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Utah, and she currently teaches in the Creative Writing program at the University of Cincinnati and in the Queens University low-residency MFA program.
