Flooding In Logan Reminds Neighbors Of Past Tragedy

A ruptured water line is said to have caused a small landslide Monday morning in Logan.

According to Logan City officials, the break flooded several backyards in Logan. Mud and debris destroyed a backyard and porch and home owners in the neighborhood were evacuated.

Larry Cannon who was left without a home for 3 hours said he and his wife tried to keep calm.

“I took my wife to her cousins’ place. And our dogs were upset so I took them for a long walk,” Cannon said. “Filled the car with gas and then finally we could get in.”

Cannon said this flooding reminds him of the flooding seven years ago in the same area, which ended in one family’s death.

“When the accident occurred several years ago, there was just nothing that could be done,” Cannon said. “We could be involved in the clean-up, but it was several days before they were able to find the people who were trapped.”

Cannon also said he knows this area will always be at risk of flooding with the nearby canal.

“We’re always susceptible with the water up there,” Cannon said.

City officials haven’t yet said why the irrigation water line broke. The water was shut off to avoid further damage and officials are working to make sure the soil and trees in the area are stable.
