Colorado Floods with Laura Pritchett on Science Questions

businessinsider.com

Science Questions explores the recent Colorado flood with author Laura Pritchett.  She watched and listened to the flood from her Colorado home and observed the aftermath that included thousands of gallons of fracking fluid leaking into the rivers.  She recalls her shocking experiences writing about the disaster, after seeing the damage from an airplane.

Laura Pritchett, is the author of six books and has a novel coming summer 2014. Her fiction includes the novel Sky Bridge, which won the WILLA Fiction Award; and the short story collection Hell's Bottom, Colorado, which won the Milkweed National Fiction Prize and the PEN USA Award. She is also the editor/co-editor of three anthologies: Pulse of the River, Home Land, and Going Green: True Tales from Gleaners, Scavengers, and Dumpster Divers. Her newest book is Great Colorado Bear Stories and she recently wrote an article for On-Earth magazine and Salon.com on the flooding, that she will discuss on the program today.

Sheri's career in radio began at 7 years old in Los Angeles, California with a secret little radio tucked under her bed that she'd fall asleep with, while listening to The Dr. Demento Radio Show. She went on to produce the first science radio show in Utah in 1999 and has been reporting local, national and international stories ever since. After a stint as news director at KZYX on northern California's Lost Coast, she landed back at UPR in 2021.
