Cache County Sheriff Deputies Involved In Shooting

A welfare check by the Cache County Sheriff’s Office turned deadly Monday after officers were forced to use lethal force.

Deputies responded to a report of an individual making suicidal threats. Officers found the individual in the Right Hand Fork area of Logan Canyon. The man was threatening another individual and refused to comply with the officers’ orders to drop his weapon. One of the deputies then fired a single shot, wounding the target. The shooting happened at approximately 1 p.m.

According to a press release from the Cache County Sheriff’s Office, the man was transported to Logan Regional Hospital and was then pronounced dead.

Captain Curtis Hooley of the Logan City Police:

"As a result of the shooting, the Cache County Sheriff’s Office requested the Logan City Police in conjunction with the Northern Utah Critical Incident Response Team to conduct the investigation of the incident. This team is made up of law enforcement officers from Logan Police, North Park Police, Utah Attorney General’s Office, Brigham City Police and the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office.

We are actively investigating the incident and no further information is available for release at this time. When information is available for release, a press release will be sent out to press agencies."
