Utah Public Radio is seeking submissions of artwork from our creative listeners for the station's third-annual mug design contest.

About the Competition

What does Utah Public Radio mean to you? What do you see when you listen on your radio, in your car, on your phone or online? Your design should be an interpretation or in appreciation of UPR, its programming, and the station's home in Utah.

We welcome all styles of artwork from cartoon to watercolor to photography. The winning design will be featured on our website and promoted on the air during our spring 2015 membership drive. Each person may submit up to three (3) designs.

Design Specifications:

The mug design must fit these specifications.

The printing space is 8 and 3/4 inches wide by 3 and 7/8 inches high, and the entire design must fit into the printing area. The image should be in full color and able to wrap around an 11 oz. white ceramic coffee mug almost from handle to handle.

  • The design must be provided in a digital format. We accept Adobe Illustrator (preferred), Photoshop, and JPEG and TIFF formats 300 dpi or higher. Hi-resolution vector art in CMYK is ideal. The artwork can be created in any medium you want, even a painting or quilt, but it will need to be scanned or photographed at a high resolution to be converted into a digital format and fit the same printing space given above.
  • To submit the design to our tumblr, save your design as an RGB file as well as in CMYK, and upload the RGB file to Tumblr. If your design is chosen, we will contact you for the CMYK for the final product.
  • If you are unable to submit your design via Tumblr, you may also put it on a CD and bring it into the UPR studios, mail it to 8505 Old Main Hill, Logan, UT 84322 or email your artwork to April Ashland.
  • A caption, "Designed for UPR (Utah Public Radio) by (your name) 2014" must be included. It can run along an edge of the artwork within the printing space, or be incorporated into the design.

The design must be created exclusively for Utah Public Radio. The artist gives Utah Public Radio the unlimited rights to reproduce and/or display the image on mugs, websites, and other promotional materials. The image will become the property of Utah Public Radio, and we will retain the artwork submitted for the station's permanent collection. The artist will not receive any payment, cash or otherwise, for the work.
