Senior Field Trips is inviting Utah seniors to attend the Mormon Tabernacle Choir broadcast of the Music and the Spoken Word this Sunday at the Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City.
Gary Fornia, marketing director for Amazing Word Entertainment which puts on the senior field trips, said this event started when he actually wasn’t able to return home to visit his mom during the holiday season.
“I asked mom, I said, ‘Mom, I’m sorry I just can’t make it back this year.’ And I said, ‘I’m sure you’re disappointed, but what can I get you for Christmas?’" Fornia said. "And she said, ‘Well Gary, give a gift that gives to others. Isn’t there a famous choir out there in Utah?’ And I said, ‘Oh yeah, we’ve got the Mormon Tabernacle Choir out here - they’re very, very famous.”
Fornia’s mom asked him to create a free way for people to enjoy the choir.
“And with Mom’s request, I reached out to Scott Barrick, the president of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and Scott graciously invited as many seniors as we could go ahead and bring to this first field trip of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir," Fornia said.
The field trips are sponsored by several local businesses, including Le Bus, which will provide at least 15 buses to transport seniors. Several living centers will be traveling together, but busses will also be located in several counties throughout the state to pickup caregivers, seniors and their families.
“He’ll be steaming them in from all of north Utah ," Fornia said.
Doors open to the public at 8:30 a.m. and guests should be seated by 9:15 a.m. The broadcast is 30 minutes in length. The Conference Center has reserved seating for seniors participating in this special holiday field trip.
