She also works as the Aggie Radio news director and a reporter for USU TV.

Logan Film Festival Building Utah's Presence in the Movie World

For organizer Tyler Woodbury, the Logan film festival does more than just provide a screen for viewing movies.

“The atmosphere in Logan is disjointed right now. So, one of the purposes of the festival is to bring it together, and bring the people together.”

The Utah Film Commission is known for promoting Utah in the movie world, but generally focuses on the Southern end of the state.

Gabe Saxton, from the Logan Downtown Alliance and the man in charge of the festival, says this publicity problem hinges on airport access.

Universities Look Outside the State to Fill the Enrollment Gap Left by LDS Missionaries.

Jasilyn Brinkerhoff, a USU sophomore, displaying her call to an LDS mission. She is one of many that will be taking an 18 month leave of absence from the University.

With more students leaving for religious missions than ever before, Universities across the state are facing major enrollment dips.

Utah State University President, Stan Albrecht, said the school is still having difficulty estimating the fiscal consequences of this lower enrollment.

“We’re budgeting in a fog right now because we don’t really understand all of the impacts yet.”

Church Fire Sparked By Old Computer Monitor

Firefighters try to save the Clearfield Community Church

Investigators are blaming a 1980’s-era computer monitor for a fire that ravaged a Clearfield church this week.

“I was getting ready to yell out, ‘Did anyone call 911 yet?’ and the police came up the street.”

Jamie Monson lives right across the street from where an old monitor overheated and sparked the Tuesday afternoon blaze in the Clearfield Community Church library.

North Davis District Interim Fire Chief Mark Becraft estimated the damages at between $750,000 and $1 million.  Monson says that damage is apparent.

Ogden School District Looks for Alternative Resources for Pool Funding

Ogden School district officials want to unload two old pools that are costing them a quarter of a million dollars in classroom money every year.  UPR’s Brianna Bodily has more.

The pools at Ogden and Ben Lomond high schools were built in the 1970’s.  Donna Corby, who handles the district’s community relations, says they both need about a half million dollars in renovation and updates.

Girl Scout Money Thief Turns Himself In

The man accused of stealing cookie money from a Girl Scout troop has turned himself into the police.  UPR’s Brianna Bodily has more on the details and possible motivation behind the crime.

Unified Police Detective Ken Hansen says 24-year-old Steven Andrew Kvenvold turned himself into police around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. 

Police say members of Troop 2532 were selling cookies at a stand outside a Taylorsville Wal-Mart last Saturday when a man and woman, working together, stole their cash box.

USU Professor receives $200,000 grant.

Receiving a landmark international grant of nearly $200,000 , USU Assistant Professor Of Music, Christopher Scheer, will be working with faculty from six other universities to research theosophy's influence on the arts in the late 19th and 20th centuries.

UPR's Brianna Bodily spoke with him about what his research will entail and why theosophy has been overlooked for so long.

Community Group Concerned About Ogden City Police Department's Conduct

"These police were, it seems to me, like they're doing whatever they want without any ramifications, there are no checks and balances to what's taking place," said Darcy Van Orden  the Campaign for Liberty community organizer.

Hers was just one of many voices calling  for change within the Ogden Police Department Tuesday night.

"I think the police chief should resign and I think there should be a full independant investigation of their current policy and their training," Van Orden said.
