LULAC Recognized Utah Democratic Senator Luz Robles at its Annual Awards Gala in Washington DC

The League of United Latin American Citizens, or LULAC, recognized a Utah State Senator on Wednesday night at its annual awards gala in Washington DC.  Here's why the organization chose to honor a local lawmaker.

Democratic Senator Luz Robles was in Washington DC last night to accept an award that recognizes leaders who have served the American Hispanic community well. Senator Robles was one of six recipients this year of awards given by LULAC, an 84-year-old organization based in the nation’s Capitol. Robles said she was honored by the recognition.

Man hit by SUV and killed by FrontRunner in Provo Friday Morning

Provo police say at 7:30 Friday morning, a 69-year-old man riding his bike was struck by an SUV at a train crossing in Provo.  The car knocked the man off his bike onto the train tracks. 

A FrontRunner train had recently left the Provo station before the train’s engineer noticed debris on the track and tried to stop.  The train could not stop before it hit the man on the tracks.

Dixie State College Becomes a University and Sticks With Traditional Name

Lawmakers have approved Dixie State College's bid to become a university and stick with its traditional name despite concerns about racial insensitivity.

The Utah State Senate approved the measure Wednesday morning on a 26-0 vote. The house approved a bill earlier 68-6.

Last month the Utah Board of Regents also approved the name change and university status.

Natural Gas Line Ruptured in Washington County

Hurricane high school in Washington County was evacuated Tuesday after a construction crew working on the schools new addition ruptured a three inch natural gas line.

At approximately 11:45 a.m. parents received a text message from hurricane high school indicating that due to the emergency students were being dismissed to return home.
