Non-Lead Bullets Effective at Killing the Right Animals, Sparing the Wrong Ones

State wildlife officials will continue their efforts to get hunters in southern Utah to switch to non-lead ammunition with a demonstration Saturday in Kanab. The goal is to reduce lead poisoning in the endangered California Condor, which feeds on animal carcasses.

Texting While Driving Proves Deadly in Uintah County

Texting while driving is being blamed for a crash that killed a 15-year-old boy over the weekend. Vernal Assistant Police Chief Keith Campbell says the accident happened Sunday night when a 28-year-old man drifted off the road, hitting the teen and his friend:

“There were some comments made by witnesses as well as the individual operating the vehicle that he was texting when he struck the boy. As a follow up to that we have his phone and it will be processed by the Rocky Mountain Computer Forensics lab.”

New Group to Help Women Earn College Degrees

The Utah Women and Education Initiative was founded last week in a continuing effort by the state to help more women complete a college education.

The initiative was started to implement the ten key recommendations from the Utah Women’s College Task Force convened by Governor Gary Herbert last year.

Initiative director Mary Ann Holladay says many women in Utah have had difficulty finishing college.
