A national study released this week shows that for the seventh consecutive year, Utah ranks number one in the nation for economic outlook.

The 2014 Rich States, Poor States: ALEC-Laffer State Economic Competitiveness Index analyzes state economic policies and assesses which states are prepared for prosperity. The index bases state rankings on performance in 15 economic categories, taking into account taxation, salaries and state expenditures.

The results of the research indicate Utah ranks number one in three categories: Estate/Inheritance Tax Levied, State Minimum Wage, and Right to Work.

Utah was followed in ranking by South Dakota, Indiana, North Dakota and Idaho.
