UPDATE: Search and Rescue For Missing Cedar City Man

UPDATE: After three days of fruitless searching, the rescue efforts to find a missing Cedar City man, have been scaled back and redefined as a recovery operation.

The mobile command unit has been removed from the site and recovery efforts will be directed out of the sheriff’s department offices in Cedar City.

The three days of searching for 34-year-old Daniel Brown have been exhaustive across multiple jurisdictions, says Lieutenant Del Schlosser of the Iron County Sheriff’s Department.

Brown’s family was notified of the change of scale and focus in the operation, and is understanding of the decision.

Original Story: The search for a missing Cedar City man was scaled back for Tuesday night due to weather and the safety of rescuers. It will be resumed Wednesday morning.

Original story

Monday, 34-year-old Daniel Brown of Cedar City was traveling on a dirt road near Kane Springs -- northwest of Parowan -- when his vehicle became stuck.  At around 4 p.m. that afternoon, he left his wife and four children to summon help.  He has not been seen since.

The wife and children were able to make a 9-1-1 call Tuesday morning after spending a frigid night in their van.  Iron County deputies quickly located the stranded mother and children and initiated a search for the family patriarch, says Lieutenant Del Schlosser of the Iron County Sheriff’s Department.

“Mr. Brown was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes. His wife and four children ranging from 11 years old to 7 months old remained in the vehicle. We were able to get them out to one of our vehicles and get them warmed up and back to the cedar city area.”

A search-and-rescue helicopter was called in to assist, but continued bad weather has hampered the search.

More information about this story will be published when it becomes available.

***Latest from the Iron County Sherrif's Department:

"Today 03-31-16 we have changed our search efforts. We still have crews on the ground and in the air searching for Mr. Brown. Due the weather we have experienced over the past few days and given the clothing Mr. Brown was wearing at the time he left his vehicle we have changed from a search and rescue operation to a recovery operation. His wife has been notified of this change and is understanding of this change.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

There is a chance Mr. Brown may have left his family behind at the vehicle and left the area. Anyone who may have seen Daniel or has any information is asked to contact Law Enforcement."
