"The True Cost" On Monday's Access Utah

The producers of the new documentary film "The True Cost" note that there has been a 500% increase in clothing consumption in the past two decades, and that the U.S. has gone from producing more than 90% of its clothing in the 1960s to just three percent today. They say that the price of clothing has been decreasing for decades, while the human and environmental costs have grown dramatically.

Filmmaker Andrew Morgan asks us to consider, who really pays the price for our clothing? How complicit are we as American and western consumers in the "true cost" of the fashion industry? He also talks with designers, fashion executives, activists and journalists who are pushing for an ethical and sustainable future for global fashion.

The trailer was released on April 24th, coinciding with Fashion Revolution Day - commemorating the Rana Plaza disaster in Bangladesh - and the film will be released on May 29.

On Monday's AU we invite you to join our conversation with filmmaker Andrew Morgan.
