Vernal teenager Tommy Clark was recently hit and killed while walking along the side of the road. Police say the driver admits to texting at the time of the accident. Utah’s texting and driving law is one of the toughest in the nation. We’ve all seen public service announcements alerting us to the dangers of distracted driving. We’ll ask you on Wednesday’s AU: what more can and should be done to prevent tragedies like this? Do we need progressively tougher penalties such as those enacted over the years with drunk driving? More awareness campaigns?
We’ll talk with University of Utah Professor David Strayer, who has studied distracted driving; Rob Reynolds, Executive Director of Focus Driven, who lost his daughter, Cady, to an accident involving a distracted driver; and UPR Vernal Correspondent Andrea Stringham.
