Hundreds of students at Southern Utah University gathered Wednesday evening for a candle light vigil to honor the victims of the Las Vegas shooting and to unite as a community.
SUU student Omar Maravilla is a Las Vegas native. While Omar felt some relief upon learning that all of his family is safe, the tragedy stirs deep feelings for home.
“It really hits home, especially for me coming from Vegas… cause I can’t be there at the moment. And to know that we have such a community like this—having an event like this with all this kind of support—it’s truly magnificent honestly. It really brings comfort to a lot of people—especially me. ”
Two southern Utahns died in Sunday’s shooting, SUU students were among the injured and SUU enrolls 812 students who call the Vegas area home.
