Southern Utah University is readying itself to take flight starting in the fall of 2013.
The Utah State Board of Regents approved a new associate of applied science degree in aerospace/aviation technology at SUU.
Offering instruction for professional pilot licensure on rotor-wing and fixed-wing aircraft, the program will provide theory- and application-based courses in aviation meteorology, aerodynamics, safety and instrument procedures.
The university and the Federal Aviation Administration will oversee the program, taught by Upper Limit Aviation, headquartered in Salt Lake City.
Courses are open to all interested students, but administrators view the program as a huge benefit to veterans across the region.
Upper Limit Aviation has ongoing educational partnerships with Salt Lake Community College and Mid South Community College in West Memphis, Ark.
