Cache County Sheriff's Office have confirmed the death of a Utah State University student in a plane crash Monday afternoon. 21-year-old Frank M. de Leon Compres was from the Dominican Republic and was in the pilot training program at USU. The crash site was located near the Mt. Sterling area near Paradise, Utah.

“We received notification this afternoon," said Chief Deputy Matt Bilodeau from the Cache County Sherrifs Office. "Any time a plane crashes though, it has equipment onboard, from what I understand, that immediately sends out a signal, the location of an aircraft that’s gone down.”

The investigation for a crash like this is extensive, according to Bilodeau.

“Well, our investigators have to go through their investigation," he said. "The medical examiner has to do his investigation. The FAA have to do their investigation. And at some point, I’m sure the aircraft will be turned over to USU.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
