St. George City Officials Encourage New Outdoor Watering Schedule

In May, the city of St. George initiated an ordinance for residents that limits outdoor watering from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Data from the last 2 months show that most people are watering their lawns between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m. Because of this, there is a large drop in water pressure causing water coverage from sprinklers to be less effective.

“A large demand for water in a short period of time creates a noticeable pressure drop in the water distribution system.  While a drop in pressure affects the entire distribution system, some residents will notice lower than normal pressure,” said Water Services Director Scott Taylor.

The city now is asking residents to avoid watering between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m. and to spread out their watering over longer periods of time, meaning allowing some downtime between water cycles.
