'Sardine' Canyon to get summer-long makeover

UDOT

There’s more road construction in the forecast for Northern Utah. On June 23, the Utah Department of Transportation will begin major work on US Hwy 89/91 in what is popularly known as Sardine Canyon.  Crews will be resurfacing the road from Sardine Summit to State Road 23 in Wellsville.

UDOT spokesman Vic Saunders says the project will last through the summer, with a completion date set for September.

Crews will also be replacing roadside delineator posts, and will install rumble strips to improve safety. In addition, the park-and-ride lot in Wellsville will be repaved June 29-30, July 6-7 and July 27-28 during which no parking will be allowed.

Saunders says drivers can expect single-lane travel through the project area, and says delays can be expected. If time is critical, UDOT recommends drivers use Valley View Highway to get to and from Cache Valley.
