Representative Wants to Ban Anyone Under the Age of 19 From Smoke Shops

Who should be allowed in smoke shops? One Utah Representative says no one under the age of 19. That’s why he is sponsoring a bill this year hoping to make that a law. But some lawmakers question the bill’s intent.

Utah law prohibits anyone under the age of 19 from smoking. But Clearfield Republican Representative Paul Ray wants to take that one step further by banning anyone under the age of 19 from setting foot inside a smoke shop all together.

Ray consistently pushes for tighter regulations on the state’s smoke shops saying it’s an issue that hits close to home.

But Senate Minority Leader Gene Davis says the bill sounds over reaching.

Representative Ray released similar bill last year. It passed in the House but was never heard in the Senate.
