In just one day, Superstorm Sandy devastated the East Coast. There are massive damages to infrastructure, power outages, and dozens of deaths.

Watching from Utah can make it seem hopeless to reach out, but the American Red Cross says Utahns can do plenty by donating badly-needed blood and platelets.

John Petersen of the Red Cross in Utah:

"We've had three hundred blood drives canceled in fourteen states. That's about 9,000 units of blood that were not collected but that are going to be needed in the next few days for cancer patients and other people who need blood transfusions in that area."

To donate, call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org for more information.
