Police Continue Searching For Man Lost In Utah Reservoir

Utah Division of Wildlife Resources
Police are using sonar equipment to search the Flaming Gorge Reservoir for a man who went missing Monday.

Police are still searching for a man who fell out of a boat in Daggett County this week.

Teams from three counties in Utah and Wyoming are contributing to the search for a 69-year-old man from Riverton after he fell out of his boat in Flaming Gorge Reservoir on Monday around 4 p.m. The Daggett County Sheriff’s Office was notified of Charles Darrell Thomas’ disappearance after his girlfriend, who was also in the boat, managed to swim to shore and call the police.

“The female was able to swim to the shore, so they’re just having to guess the approximate location that she may have been in,” said Susie Potter, spokeswoman for Daggett County.

Potter said divers are conducting an extensive search in the reservoir.

“They use sonar equipment and then dive down and try to take a picture of the things they are seeing in the water,” Potter said. “There’s quite a large area that they’re searching, and they’re not really sure when it went down.”

The surface area of the reservoir covers over 42,000 acres.
