Navajo Nation Road to be Improved as Alternate Route

Arizona transportation officials have approved and fast-tracked the improvement of a Navajo Nation road to act as an alternate route to US-89 closed by a landslide south of page.

Navajo route 20 runs in almost a straight line parallel with us-89.  But as Floyd Stevens, president of Copper Mine chapter, a village at the south end of N-20 tells us the road will need to be improved, particularly an unpaved 28-mile stretch.

"By the time you get to the end of the 28 miles, you have a few extra rattles in your car or you have to be a resident to travel at 50 miles an hour and be used to it," Stevens said.

Stevens estimates the project will be ready for travelers toward the end of summer
