Logan Youth Shakespeare Makes History With New Show

The award-winning Logan Youth Shakespeare group is making history this week as they perform “Cardenio”, Shakespeare’s “lost” play. It is the U.S. premiere of the play and the first time and amateur group will perform the piece.

According to the play’s director Mary Jackson-Smith, “Cardenio” has only been published with the traditional Arden Shakespearean cannon since 2010 and has had a long journey to make it to the Cache Valley stage.

“The story of the script of the play, you know, and how it was lost and found and how we have it now is almost like its own script in itself, you know," said Jackson-Smith. "Seriously, it’s like a really interesting mystery novel.”

The actors, ages 9-18 participate in the show without auditions, giving all who desire to the stage experience. To accommodate the overwhelming response from the community’s youth, Jackson-Smith works with three separate casts which will each perform the piece.

"Cardenio" will be performed at the Bullen Center in Logan on Jan. 24, 25, 27, 30, 31 at 7:00 pm and Feb. 1 at 2:00 pm.
