Free Legal Help Available To Veterans In St. George

http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/
A St. George Community Based Outpatient Clinic is offering free legal help to veterans

Brad Evans is a veteran’s justice outreach specialist with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He oversees the homeless and justice clinical recovery program, and said the clinic can help assist war veterans with legal issues such as land-lord tenant disputes, criminal charges and living wills.

After he was contacted by people looking for help, he realized that a legal clinic was needed in the community.

“We had some interest from people down in southern Utah who would contact me because they see the ‘justice’ in the title of one of the programs I work with and think I can provide them legal services,” Evans said. “We saw enough of that, that I was trying to find other ways to refer them, that we got some interest in attorneys down here who said that they would be willing to volunteer and so we put the legal clinic together.”

The program was started in April last year. According to Evans, many local attorneys come in every month and volunteer their time to resolve veteran’s issues.

“What we have is an agreement with local attorneys,” Evans said. “We provide the space and then we have attorneys from the community that come and volunteer to answer questions for free to veterans who show up to our legal clinic.”

The services are available at the Community Based Outpatient Clinic in St. George on the first Wednesday of every month. The address is 230 N. 1680 E., Building N. For questions about the legal clinic, Brad Evans can be reached at (435) 635-7608, ext. 6020.
