Construction continues in Sardine Canyon, SR 23

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will continue making improvements to US Highway 89/91 between state Route 90 (200 South in Brigham City) and Mantua, and between Sardine Summit and S.R. 23 in Wellsville in the 2013 construction season.

Scheduled Project Activities: Crews have begun removing and replacing asphalt between S.R. 23 and the summit. One land will be closed in each direction weekdays from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Expect delays during the morning commute. Use S.R. 30 to I-15 as an alternate.

There will be no construction work the week of July 22-26 in recognition of Pioneer Day. Construction work is tentatively scheduled to resume the week of July 29.

July 27-28: The Park & Ride lot at S.R. 23 in Wellsville will be closed to traffic July 27 and 28 for maintenance. There will be no parking allowed in the lot during maintenence work. Unattended vehicles will be towed at the owner's expense. Alternate parking will be allowed along the shoulder of S.R. 23 (Wellsville Main Street).

Activities on US-89/91 will include:

Asphalt Rehabilitiation: Crews will remove and replace pavement from Sardine Summit to S.R. 23 to extend the roadway life.

Safety Improvements: Crews will remove and replace concrete barrier between S.R. 90 and Mantua and add line delineators and rumble strips to improve safety between summit and S.R. 23.

Traffic Impacts: US-89/91 will be restricted to one lane from the Summit to Wellsville during daytime hours, weekdays and weekends except from noon on Fridays until 7p.m. on Saturdays, when all lanes must be open.

Motorists may experience some traffic delays and construction-related noise and vibrations. Lane restrictions will also be required to replace concrete barriers from Brigham City to Sardine Summit.

Activities are subject to change due to weather, supply, or equipment problems.
