Main Street in Logan was closed Monday afternoon after a man attempted suicide in front of the North Logan Walmart Supercenter.

Logan City Police Department said they were notified that a man pulled out a firearm in Preston, Idaho and threatened that he was going to have police shoot him. Preston Police Department said they discovered the man’s pickup truck at a Cache Valley Transit District bus stop and notified the Logan City Police Department.

CVTD officials told the police they dropped the man off at 2200 N. and Main St. in North Logan. According to Logan City Police Chief Gary Jensen, the man then walked from 2200 N. and Main to 1600 N. and Main St., where he sat in a glass-enclosed bus stop in front of the North Logan Walmart Supercenter.

“Officers were able to close Main Street,” Jensen said. “They drove an unmarked police vehicle close to his location. As police officers got out, the man pulled a firearm from his waistband and immediately pointed it at his own head and shot himself.”

The man was then transported to Logan Regional Hospital.

“This is probably presumptive of me, but it’s anticipated that he may survive,” Jensen said.

Officials at Logan Regional Hospital were unable to comment on the man’s condition.

Logan City Police Chief Gary Jensen gave UPR the information, even though the incident happened in the North Logan Walmart Supercenter, because the North Park Police Chief was out of town.
